Cons:

Some cons to elective plastic surgery are: cost, physical risks, and maintenance. Because elective cosmetic surgery is planned in advance, there is ample time to prepare for the potential risks and gain insight from your Baltimore plastic surgeon.

The cost of plastic surgery is not necessarily cheap, but price depends mainly on how many surgeries you intend to have, and which surgeries in particular you opt for. Physical risks associated with plastic surgery depend on the type of surgery you have done, and can be reviewed with your surgeon beforehand. Being open and honest with your surgeon about the status of your physical health will best prepare you for a pain-free procedure. Selecting an ethical and qualified plastic surgeon, like Dr. Schreiber, will ensure that you are aware of all risks, and that the utmost care will be taken to avoid any complications. Lastly, maintenance associated with plastic surgery is often a concern, but is again dependent on the surgeon and the type of surgery being done. Certain procedures may require a follow-up surgery, but when this is the case, surgeons will disclose this during the consultation phase.

Overall, the beauty of elective cosmetic surgery lies not only in the outcome but in the planning stages that precede it. Though there are some risk factors, talking with your doctor will keep you well-informed so you can ultimately be prepared for the body you have been planning for. The last step is a definite pro – celebrate your newly changed body!

Plastic Surgeon Baltimore: Quick Guide to Liposuction

September 28, 2016Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

How to Prep Tummy Tuck

Liposuction, or “lipoplasty,” is a surgical procedure in which certified plastic surgeons remove excess, unwanted fat from the patient’s body. The surgery is not generally done as a weight loss measure, but rather to rid the midsection of stubborn pockets of fat cells that the patient cannot eliminate on their own. This usually occurs after diet and exercise have been attempted for an extended period of time, but no further progress is seen. Find out if a tummy tuck Baltimore is right for you and have your lipoplasty questions answered below!

There is more than just one way this procedure can be completed. Your plastic surgeon in Baltimore will utilize two of the most popular and effective practices: ultrasonic and tumescent. Ultrasonic liposuction consists of an ultrasonic energy that breaks up the fat cells, making them smaller and more easy to remove. This form of liposuction is used to focus on larger pockets of fat, reducing them to a sizable amount in which they can be entirely removed. Often, tummy tuck surgeons will follow up the ultrasonic liposuction with a tumescent tummy tuck. This second format involves an insertion of a tumescent fluid made up of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine, which targets and eliminates smaller particles of fat that may not be retrievable by the ultrasonic method.

Clients that choose a tummy tuck in Baltimore MD are treated with the utmost care from start to finish. A typical process with your plastic surgery professional, Dr. Schreiber, will begin with a consultation. This is when drawing on the body may occur, to highlight the areas in which you hope to remove fatty tissue. After surgery is completed, your plastic surgeon in Baltimore may recommend a compression garment to ensure the healing process occurs properly. Recovery time varies from individual to individual, but will generally last anywhere from a few days to a week. This depends on the client and amount of fat removed.

As with many other cosmetic surgeries, the benefit of getting the body that you want and desire can accompany some risks. Fortunately, most of the risk factors associated with lipoplasty can be taken care of with preventative measures, and limiting risk-inducing activities prior to surgery. For example, a common risk factor that can impact a tummy tuck is smoking and general health. Increasing risky behaviors, neglecting physical health, and smoking can negatively influence surgery in which you will need to be under anesthesia. Consult with your doctor and be honest about the status of your health. Doing so will allow your surgeon to confirm if you are a qualified candidate for tummy tuck Baltimore.

Baltimore Plastic Surgeon Offers Breast Augmentation & Mommy Makeovers

August 16, 2016Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

Top 5 Plastic Surgeries Colorado(1)

Women considering breast augmentation in Baltimore might prefer a Mommy Makeover instead – but what does that involve? This popular cosmetic surgery option is actually a customized combination of procedures that help women regain their pre-baby bodies. If you meet with Dr. Schreiber, your Mommy Makeover will typically include a breast lift and augmentation, liposuction on the hips or thighs, and a tummy tuck in Baltimore MD. There are certain body changes that most women tend to experience after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding; the Mommy Makeover helps a mom feel like herself again!

Reasons for Considering a Mommy Makeover:

  • Extra fat in the stomach, hips, and thighs after pregnancy
  • Extra abdominal skin and/or stretchmarks following childbirth
  • Loose or sagging breasts caused by breastfeeding
  • Asymmetrical or misshapen breasts due to hormonal changes and breastfeeding

Overall Procedure

A Mommy Makeover deals with these particular problems by performing the various procedures simultaneously. It all depends on the preferences of the patient. Some women, for example, may not be concerned about bigger hips and thighs. But they might want their breasts lifted and reduced instead having the breast augmentation in Baltimore that Dr. Schreiber would normally perform. Others may be fine with their breasts, but plagued by stretch marks and a misshapen belly button after carrying a large baby. Each procedure can be performed individually, but doing them as a combination saves the patient money, anesthesia exposure, and recuperation time.
Baltimore plastic surgeon Dr. Schreiber will do a breast lift, with or without breast implants, to elevate the breasts’ volume and raise the areola and nipple to the best position. It is important to note that most plastic surgeons recommend that women wait until they are done breastfeeding their last child before having a lift, augmentation, or reduction. Next, Dr. Schreiber will do the tummy tuck. This typically entails taking away the extra skin of the lower abdomen in addition to making the abdominal wall muscles tighter. Any stretch marks below the belly button are also normally eliminated.

Recuperation Process after a Mommy Makeover

Post-operative instructions normally require lots of rest and restricted movement. Bandages are used following surgery to help the healing process, and lessen movement of the breasts and abdomen. When the bandages are taken off, a specialized surgical bra must be worn for several weeks. Occasionally, patients report slight pain connected to the surgery. This pain can be taken care of efficiently with oral medication. Dr. Schreiber will also give you an abdominal binder to assist with healing and comfort. Other important post-operative care instructions include taking all prescribed medication, resting and relaxing, and attending all post-op appointments for up to a year after the procedure. Dr. Schreiber will monitor the patient closely and clear them for certain activity levels depending on their progress.

All About Tummy Tucks

Are you considering having a tummy tuck done? Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber, plastic surgeon in Baltimore, reveals what you can expect after the procedure is complete. Learn more about what to expect, the healing process, and the general recovery timeline.

Next you will need someone to give you a ride home, and help you get comfortable in bed or on the couch. These are rare, but it is important that your doctor do regular, thorough post-op exams to confirm that all is well. A sample timeline for these appointments would be at one week, one month, three months, six months, nine months, and one year.

Your initial recovery period lasts about 7-10 days. Some doctors will leave you with the number of an on-call nurse or physician’s assistant, but Dr. Schreiber gives his patients his personal cell phone number. He encourages every patient to contact him any time, day or night, with questions or concerns. He will also have provided you with pain medication prescriptions in advance, and details on the specific items you will need to have a comfortable recuperation. After about a week, your doctor will give you the go-ahead to drive. At two weeks you can do light, very low-impact exercise, and at six weeks you can resume more rigorous exercise. It is around the six to eight week mark when the swelling will be significantly reduced and you will really have a good feel for your new flat stomach! Anti-Aging Procedures for Men

August 2, 2016Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

Anti Aging for Men

Baltimore plastic surgeon Dr. Schreiber performs many procedures for women – Baltimore breast augmentation in particular – but plastic surgery isn’t just for the ladies. Men are becoming more comfortable with modifying their bodies, and Dr. Schreiber has a host of services available for them. Read on to discover his top anti-aging procedures for men, including a hair transplant, Botox injection, male breast reduction, or tummy tuck in Baltimore MD.

Hair transplants are a common procedure, and those seeking a Baltimore plastic surgeon for them should book an appointment with Dr. Schreiber. He performs the procedure using the most up-to-date hair restoration techniques, and the results are remarkable. The hairs are individually grafted, for a natural appearance that uses your real hair. He applies them at an angle, so they look just like the rest of your hair, and don’t have that “plug” appearance that so many men worry about. This is the ideal solution for anyone that is balding or concerned with a receding hairline. It will instantly take years off of your appearance!

The tummy tuck in Baltimore, MD is another popular procedure for both men and women. If you book with Dr. Schreiber, he will remove excess skin from your abdominal area, and tighten the muscles. This is particularly effective for stubborn tummy fat and loose skin after weight loss. Some guys love their “beer belly” or “dad bod”, but many just want their high school body back! Opt for a tummy tuck Baltimore to restore your waistline and feel more comfortable going shirtless. This procedure can also help to show off muscles that you have developed, but which are currently hidden under your excess skin or fat.

As mentioned earlier, breast augmentations in Baltimore are a favorite choice among patients. Most men, though, opt for a breast reduction instead. Dr. Schreiber is skilled in the process of male breast reduction for gynecomastia. Sometimes men develop breast tissue at puberty, or later in life due to hormonal fluctuations. Others become concerned with their excess breast tissue or fat after losing large amounts of weight. He can also help men who are self conscious about the size or protrusion of their nipples or areola.

Botox is probably the most well-known of anti-aging cosmetic enhancement options, and for good reason. It is safe and effective for the treatment of wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyes, and on either side of each eye (crow’s feet). Dr. Schreiber is a Botox specialist, and you can trust that he will apply his expert knowledge to every case. Botox treatments tend to take under 20 minutes or so, and can even be done on your lunch break! The results last for a few months, and there’s virtually no recovery time afterwards. It’s the quickest and easiest way to blast away wrinkles that might be making you appear older.

You should stock up on all of the essential postoperative care items, as well as any comfort foods or accessories that will help you as you recover. This will likely include light foods that are easy on your digestive system, like clear broths, bread and toast, soup, applesauce, and bananas. Follow your doctor’s instructions about which medication to take in advance, and be sure to get a good night’s sleep. The day of the surgery is when all the preparation comes together! Misconceptions About Breast Augmentation and Lift Breast Augmentation: Baltimore Plastic Surgeon Reveals Top 5 Misconceptions

June 24, 2016Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

Misconceptions About Breast Augmentation and Lift Breast Augmentation: Baltimore Plastic Surgeon Reveals Top 5 Misconceptions

Breast augmentation in Baltimore is a popular procedure, but many are confused by contradictory information. Famous Baltimore plastic surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber separates reality from myths and reveals the top 5 misconceptions he often encounters.

  • Silicone Breast Implants Can Burst

Many people believe that silicone breast implants can “burst” when put under pressure. They also believe that travelling in an airplane might be dangerous, because the cabin pressure could cause the implants to break apart. Silicone implants are not balloons, and do not ‘blow up’ during a flight, as some people believe.

  • All Implants Must Be Replaced After 10 Years

Another common misconception regarding breast augmentation in Baltimore is that all implants will have to be replaced after ten years. The truth is that breast implants only need to be replaced if the patient is not happy with their shape, or if they get rupture. Otherwise, there is no need to change the implant after every ten years. Silicone implants can occasionally rupture, but the silicone does not leak or spread into the body. It stays within the implant, so they are not dangerous they way they were when they first came out.

  • Women With Implants Can’t Breastfeed

Many women fear that breast implants will prevent them from breastfeeding their children. Any qualified Baltimore plastic surgeon will confirm that breast augmentation does not affect the ability to breastfeed. Breast implants actually have nothing to do with mammary secretions, and a woman with implants is just as capable of breastfeeding as someone without.

  • Implants Increase the Risk of Cancer

Many women believe that breast enhancements will make them more prone to cancer. However, accredited Baltimore breast augmentation institutions have stated that there is no definitive link between breast augmentation and breast cancer. Baltimore plastic surgeons encourage women to continue with monthly self breast exams, and to visit their doctor every 3-6 months for a more comprehensive exam. This is true for women with or without breast implants, because regular checkups can ease concerns and catch warning signs early enough for treatment.

  • Breast Augmentation Requires 6 Weeks Bed Rest

Some people have the misconception that breast augmentation surgery must be followed by six weeks of complete physical inactivity, which includes leave from work. In reality, breast augmentation is not that complicated. Patients with strenuous jobs, or jobs that require heavy lifting, may need to take a few weeks off. Patients with desk jobs, though, rarely require much leave. They can often get back to work within a few days after their breast augmentation surgery.

Tummy Tuck: Planning your post-op recovery Renowned Plastic Surgeon in Baltimore Tells All About Tummy Tuck Recovery

Recovering From a Tummy Tuck

Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure for those who want to perfect the shape and proportion of their belly. If you’re seeking a tummy tuck in Baltimore, MD, you need to find an experienced plastic surgeon in Baltimore. This procedure is very popular among women who have had multiple children and want to restore their pre-baby shape. It’s also a common option for people who have lost significant amounts of weight, and now have excess skin in their abdominal area.

If you’re recovering from a tummy tuck in Baltimore, Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber will guide you through the recovery process. He has also provided a general overview here for those seeking tummy tuck surgeries out of the area. It is very important that patients follow the advice of their doctor and stick to the post-surgical regime. This will ensure the quickest and least painful recovery time possible, and limit the risk of any complications. Patients should remember that abdominal surgery requires both external and internal healing; proper time and care must be given for full recovery.

Discuss Everything With Your Surgeon

During the postoperative period, patients should be prepared to discuss every aspect of their healing process, in detail. A qualified and experienced plastic surgeon in Baltimore, or anywhere else, will ask patients about their medical history, diet, daily routine, and family life. The surgeon will also ask the patient to inform them immediately in the case of any complication, including excessive bleeding, pain, or infection. Patients should always discuss their medication in detail with the surgeon, and inform them of any side effects experienced. Bleeding and pain might signify a potential danger. Some patients develop blood clots, which have to be treated immediately.

Limit Physical Activities

It is important to understand that a tummy tuck is medical procedure, plastic surgery can be just as serious as any other type of surgery. As such, it must be treated with the same respect and care. It is important for patients to follow their doctor’s orders, and create a plan to get through their recovery phase. Patients should know that they need to make a few significant changes to their normal routine.

For the first two weeks after the surgery, patients need to limit their physical exertions. Cycling, jogging, swimming and all other sports must be avoided. House chores should be restricted, and only the most important tasks can be performed. Patients must take care to put no extra strain on their incisions or stitches.

Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber is one of the most experienced and qualified cosmetic surgeons you can see for a tummy tuck in Baltimore MD. He is a member of ASAPS (American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery). More information on tummy tucks can be found at: www.baltimoreplasticsurgery.com. Baltimore Plastic Surgeon Tells All You Need to Know About Facelifts

May 24, 2016Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

Baltimore FaceliftsGetting a facelift can remove many years of wrinkles and aging. Although various other methods and procedures are available to pause facial aging, such as injectables and fillers, the most long-lasting technique that Baltimore Plastic Surgeon Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber suggests is a facelift. Its impact will last at least ten years. It may be a long procedure, and it can take some time to heal, but it is the best way to get rid of sagging and aging facial skin.

Facelift Preps

Once the patient has decided to get a facelift done, they must decide on a certified surgeon who can guide them to what would be best for their face. Baltimore Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber is more than qualified when it comes to working on facelifts and tummy tuck in Baltimore, MD. He has years of experience and was also trained at John Hopkins University. He advises that every facelift begins with an understanding of the patient’s medical history, and evaluation of their face. This is done to analyze skin elasticity, wrinkles, dark circles, hairline and bone structure. The initial consultation should normally conclude with photos for the ‘Before’ and ‘After’ comparison.

Two weeks prior to the facelift, the doctor will advise the patient to stop taking any and all medications that could cause complications during or after surgery. It is recommended that the patient schedule an appointment with their doctor and show him or all the medications they are using, in case of any serious health concerns. It may be that the surgeon himself will provide the patient with certain medications before the facelift.

Plastic Surgeon Baltimore, Dr. Schreiber suggests that it is crucial for patients who smoke to quit doing so before and after their facelift surgery. Smoking reduces the blood flow into the face, and patients who do not quit smoking usually end up with dead skin, which is also known as necrosis.

Steps of a Facelift

There are three steps to a facelift procedure.

  • Anesthesia. Depending on the complexity of the facelift surgery, the doctor will provide the patient with either local anesthesia or general anesthesia.
  • Incisions. Incisions usually start from behind the ears, in front of the ears, or from the scalp area. They are made in such areas where they are neither prominent, nor leave scars on the face.
  • The facelift itself. Once the surgeon has made incisions in all the necessary areas, the facelift begins from the deeper layers of the face and the skin is lifted. Excess skin is removed in the process, and liposuction gets rid of any excess fat. Face muscles are reshaped and tightened and the face is then stapled or sutured to stay in place.

Some surgeons recommend that female patients should grow their hair long, so that the scars won’t show during the recovery period. For male patients, the incisions are made along the beard lines.

Summer Sizzlin’ Looks with Baltimore Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber

May 19, 2016Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

This summer, look your best with one, two, or all of the summer sizzlin’ procedures that Baltimore plastic surgery expert, Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber, can do for you! When it comes to cosmetic surgery and the summer, many people do not want a long recovery. Certain cosmetic surgery procedures can give you great results without a long recovery and downtime. Here is a list of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures that you can do over the summer and still be able to enjoy the sunshine and pool every day:

1. Coolsculpting – this is a great non-surgical way to remove unwanted fat. It’s great for diet and exercise resistant fat of the arms, back, flanks, love handles, belly, and thighs. No surgery, no scars, no downtime, no recovery, and almost no pain! Baltimore Coolsculpting patients come in to the office and get the procedure done over one hour or several hours with breaks in between. Then, they go home and they can even workout that night! Results are typically seen over 1-3 months as your body removes the excess fat that was treated with the Coolsculpting device.

2. Botox and Dysport – Botox and Dysport have been around for many years and for good reason. They are very useful for treating wrikles and lines around the eyes called crow’s feet, foreahead, between the eyes, and even neck lines. The procedure takes only a few minutes with very minimal discomfort and no downtime. Many of Dr. Schreiber’s patients get Botox and Dysport during their lunch hour! Then, in about 3-5 days you see the nice effects of the Botox or Dysport and they can last up to 3 months.

3. Fillers – Fillers, like Restylane, Juvederm, and Voluma are great to fill in the lines and wrinkles around the mouth, to restore volume to the cheeks, and can very nicely restore shape and volume to the lips. Dr. Schreiber uses a numbing cream and can even do a dental block to help make the procedure as painless as possible. Fillers typically last around 6 months, but Voluma can last up to 2 years!

4. Viora Reaction Skin Tightening – Radiofrequency energy is one of the newer technologies to tighten the skin of the neck and jowls and to decrease the amount of cellulite on the legs, buttocks, and back. The Viora Reaction device is done right in the office with minimal pain. Effects are usually seen after 3-4 treatments spaced several weeks apart. For no surgery, Viora Reaction radiofrequency is one of the best ways to tighten the jowls and to treat cellulite!

5. Kybella – the double chin! Typically, liposuction was used to remove fat from the neck area and this involved a surgical procedure. Now, however, Kybella is a medicine that can be injected underneath the skin of the neck to slowly and safely dissolve the fat without surgery! Dr. Schreiber will numb the skin and then inject the Kybella with a tiny needle. It usually takes 3 treatments to see the effects, but they can be amazing!
