Facial Peel

BALTIMORE PLASTIC & COSMETIC SURGERY

When it comes to rejuvenating the face, there are many options.  Chemical peels are an essential part of facial rejuvenation and of keeping the skin of the face and neck youthful looking.  The peels gently remove the outer layers of skin allowing the deeper layers to regenerate.  This provides the face and neck with a younger looking, more refreshed appearance to the skin.

Chemical peel specialist, Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber, has years of experience performing chemical peels.  For those patients looking for complete facial rejuvenation, he can even combine chemical peels with other procedures, like Botox, fillers, facelifts, and necklifts.  When you come in for a consultation, Dr. Schreiber will thoroughly review your history and physical to make the best recommendations for you.  If you’d like to do the peel at the same time as the consultation, this can be arranged as well.  For the actual chemical peel process, Dr. Schreiber will gently clean your face first.  This is followed by the application of the peel.  Chemical peels come in two basic strengths: 20% and 35%.  If you’ve never had a peel before, Dr. Schreiber will most likely recommend the 20% strength peel.  However, if you’re experienced in the chemical peel process and you’ve had one before, Dr. Schreiber can go right to the 35% peel.

During the chemical peel application, Dr. Schreiber will apply the peel in layers until he sees an adequate reaction to the peel.  Usually, this can be done with 1-3 layers of the peel.  One of Dr. Schreiber’s assistants will also cool the skin with cool compresses and a fan during the process to help minimize any discomfort.

Recovery from a chemical peel is very easy.  You may have several hours of redness afterward with several days of peeling.  Dr. Schreiber recommends the generous application of Aquaphor during the peeling process and also recommends facial sunblock lotion if you’re planning on being in the sun.
