Baltimore breast augmentation specialist, Jeffrey Schreiber, is happy to offer these highly anticipated breast implants to his patients.

MENTOR®, the number one global brand in breast aesthetics, announced the FDA approved their new MemoryGel BOOST™ Breast Implant for breast augmentation in women at least 22 years old, and for women of all ages undergoing breast reconstruction.

Nearly 400,000 women undergo breast implant surgeries every year in the U.S. [1], and selecting an implant is a very personal decision and critical part of the journey. Each patient’s preferences and goals are unique, and that means providing them with a wide range of sizes and profiles to enhance their ability to individualize. While there are many options currently available, there’s been a need for an implant with increased form stability to help shape the breast, without sacrificing the soft, natural feel that patient’s desire.

“Our commitment to innovation is driven, first and foremost, by the needs of our customers and patients, and providing them with the highest quality products to achieve their desired outcome,” said Lori Tierney, Worldwide President, Mentor Worldwide LLC. “With this pivotal addition to our MemoryGel® portfolio, we are thrilled to provide a meaningful range of options to meet surgeon objectives and patient preferences, beyond what is currently available in the breast aesthetics market.”

According to a recent survey, Baltimore Breast Augmentation patients and surgeons both preferred the MENTOR® MemoryGel BOOST™ Breast Implant for feeling more like a natural breast versus another leading brand.

MemoryGel BOOST™ brings together Mentor’s proprietary highly cohesive gel, an innovative implant shell design and precision fill ratio, the combination of which provides an implant with increased form stability to shape the breast.

“Through science-based design and innovation, we are able to offer both increased form stability and a natural feel in the same product,” said Krasimira Hristov, Director of R&D, Mentor Worldwide LLC. “The MemoryGel BOOST™ Breast Implant is truly a unique innovation that satisfies an unmet need and expands the MemoryGel® product line.”

For more than 30 years, Mentor has been trusted and respected by surgeons and their patients, with over seven million women worldwide choosing Mentor® Breast Implants for their Baltimore breast augmentation and breast reconstruction journeys. Mentor also offers the industry’s best and most comprehensive enhanced warranty, and all MENTOR® Breast Implants are backed by the Mentor Promise Protection Plan, which provides free and automatic coverage for patients who qualify.

breast implant revision Baltimore

When do I need to exchange my breast implants and where can I schedule a breast implant revision in Baltimore?

No CommentsBreast Augmentation, breast augmentation baltimore, breast augmentation in baltimore md, breast augmentation Maryland, breast implant maryland, breast implant revision baltimore, breast reconstruction baltimoreJanuary 20, 2022Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

The lifespan of breast implants is a very common concern for patients considering breast augmentation. You may be wondering: how long do breast implants last? How often do they need to be replaced? What happens to breast implants over time? And where to go for breast implant revision Baltimore.

Many women mistakenly believe that breast implants have to be replaced every 10 years.  Most silicone and saline implants are FDA approved for 10-20 years, but this does not mean that you have to get them replaced every 10-20 years.

In 2011, the FDA released this report on the safety of silicone breast implants. According to the report, after 10 years of an initial breast augmentation, 1 out of 5 patients need some sort of breast implant revision Baltimore procedure. That means 20% of patients need another operation due to excess scarring inside the breast (capsular contracture), broken implant etc. That also means that 80% of the patient’s breast implants are fine at 10 years! Since 2011, there are newer fifth generation gummy bear implants. These implants appear sturdier than the implants studied in 2011.

If you’re having an issue such as hardening or rippling, or potential rupture, you may need to change out your breast implants. However with proper monitoring (self-exams, mammograms), you don’t need to automatically replace your implants every 10 years.

When a patient undergoes breast augmentation, the initial results are beautifully shaped breasts that appear fuller and youthful. Breast augmentation is an investment in yourself and you should do all you can to minimize the need for revision surgery. Here are some tips to maintain your results!

Wear properly fitted bras

Push-up bras can do more harm than good for your breasts. Studies show that wearing bras with too much lift can weaken the supportive ligaments and muscles. This can potentially speed up the aging process, as your muscles won’t be able to handle the weight of your breasts on their own. Be gentle on your body and wear comfortable, but not overly supportive bras.

Watch your posture

Sitting with poor posture can cause your breasts to pull forward for extended periods of time—potentially causing them to sag. Try to stand and sit up straight and avoid hunching or rounding your shoulders.

Sleep on your back

We spend around a third of our lives sleeping, but snoozing on your side or front can stretch out ligaments in breast tissue. Sleeping on your back provides the ligaments support and reduces the pull of gravity. If you struggle to stay positioned on your back throughout the night, try placing a pillow under each arm to keep your body in place.

Good Skincare

Our skin is our largest organ, but also one of the most delicate parts of the body. Sun exposure can cause damage and stretch out tissue, so don’t sunbathe or tan excessively. Always use a good sunscreen whenever you’re outside, and wear protective clothing when necessary. While it may be tempting to choose a tan over skin safety, know that your body will thank you in the long run.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle

Smoking and drinking can dry out your skin and hair, so cut back on these habits when possible. Also, avoid “yo-yo dieting” as extreme weight changes can break down the elasticity in your skin. Try to keep at a consistent weight via healthy food and proper exercise. Give your body the nutrient-dense fuel it needs to keep your skin and muscles strong.

Exchanging breast implants or additional breast augmentations aren’t always due to deflation or a rupture of the implant (which are rare occurrences), affecting only about 3% of implants. Many revisions are by choice, when women decide they want to change their size or have further refinement. In addition, as you age, your implants may shift, especially if you have had children or gain / lose significant amounts of weight.

Most of Dr. Schreiber’s patients only have to have 1-2 replacements in their lifetime. The length of time you can safely go between replacements will depend on the type of implant you receive and your physiology. Dr. Schreiber will discuss the life of your implants with you before your procedure. Last but not least, you may want to trade your current implants for larger or smaller implants in the future. This is a perfectly valid reason to get your implants replaced!

breast augmentation Baltimore

Do I need a breast augmentation in Baltimore, a breast lift in Baltimore, or both?

No CommentsJuly 19, 2021Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

If you have considered having cosmetic breast surgery, there is a good chance that you have also wondered if you need a breast augmentation, a breast lift or both. There are various factors that will come into play when making this decision.

The most common reasons why women consider a combo breast lift with implants include:

  • Your breasts have lost volume, shape, and firmness due to pregnancy, age, weight loss, or gravity
  • Your breasts are noticeably different in size or shape, and you want more symmetry and fullness
  • Your breasts appear deflated and your nipples and/or areolas are pointing downwards or positioned below the breast crease

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BREAST LIFT TECHNIQUES

A breast lift changes the position of your nipples and areolas, elevates your breasts, and removes any excess skin. The benefit is perkier breasts that look more youthful.

Peri-Areolar Breast Lift – Sometimes referred to as a “donut lift,” the peri-areolar breast lift technique is a great option for women with mild sagging who would benefit from subtle lifting. With this technique, renowned Plastic Surgeon in Baltimore, Dr. Schreiber will make one, circular incision around the entire outer edge of your areola. Again, this technique results in a minimally visible scar.

Anchor Breast Lift – With incisions placed in the shape of an anchor, this lifting technique is reserved for women who require dramatic reshaping to improve significant sagging.

Lollipop Breast Lift– is more suitable for moderately sized breasts. The lollipop lift begins as the anchor lift does. The incision is made around the areola, and then an incision is made down the center of the lower breast.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BREAST IMPLANTS

If you want to achieve a bigger size and more fullness, then combining a breast lift with breast implants is something to look into.

Dr. Schreiber will suggest which implant type based on your body shape, medical history, lifestyle, and beauty goals. The following options are available for breast augmentation in Baltimore:

  • Saline-filled breast implants are filled with sterile salt water. They are filled at the time of surgery to allow for a shorter incision and for minor modifications in implant size.
  • Silicone-filled breast implants are filled with soft gel and are available in a variety of shapes. All silicone breast implants are pre-filled and may require a longer incision for implant placement.
  • Cohesive gel silicone implants, also known as “gummy bear” or “form stable” implants, are filled with a cohesive silicone gel which makes them feel thicker and firmer than traditional silicone implants. This enables them to retain their shape and better projection.
  • Shaped implants, also called “teardrop” or “anatomical” implants have less fullness in the upper part and more fullness in the lower part, mimicking the shape of a real breast. They have advantages and disadvantages compared to other implants.

Once you decide which type of breast implant to combine with your breast lift in Baltimore, you should think about the placement of the implant. Dr. Schreiber can place it either: Behind the pectoral muscle or behind the breast tissue and will discuss this with you at your personal consultation.

BREAKDOWN OF BREAST IMPLANTS

No Commentsbreast augmentation baltimore, Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber, plastic surgeons in BaltimoreApril 15, 2020Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

breast augmentation Baltimore

The ever popular breast augmentation Baltimore surgery involves using implants to increase the size of your breasts or restore breast volume that has been lost after weight reduction or pregnancy.

Breast augmentation can:

  • Increase fullness and projection of your breasts
  • Improve the balance of your figure
  • Enhance your self-image and self-confidence

Here we will break down the 4 main categories a patient needs to consider when determining what type of implant is best for them- fill, shape, projection and size.

Breast Implants Fills – The type of material inside the implant

  • Saline implants are filled with sterile salt water. They provide a uniform shape, firmness and feel. Should the implant shell leak, a saline implant will collapse and the saline will be absorbed and naturally expelled by the body. Saline implants are FDA-approved for augmentation in women age 18 or older.
  • Silicone or Gel implants are filled with silicone gel. The gel feels a bit more like natural breast tissue. If the implant leaks, the gel may remain within the implant shell, or may escape into the breast implant pocket. A leaking implant filled with silicone gel will not collapse. Silicone implants are FDA-approved for augmentation in women age 22 or older.
  • Cohesive Gel implants are similar to the “gummy bear” implants because they maintain their shape even when the implant shell is broken. The consistency of the silicone gel inside the implant is thicker than traditional silicone gel implants. These implants are also firmer than traditional implants, but are thought to be less likely to break. Cohesive gel implants are shaped rather than round. They have more projection at the bottom and are tapered toward the top. If a shaped implant rotates, it may lead to an unusual appearance of the breast.

Breast implants Shapes –The form and shape of the implant

  • Round implants have a tendency to make breasts appear fuller than cohesive gel implants. Higher profile options can achieve even more projection. Because round implants are the same shape all over, there is less concern about them rotating out of place.
  • Smooth implants are the softest feeling. These implants can move with the breast implant pocket, which may give more natural movement. These implants may have some palpable or visible rippling.

Breast Implant Profiles – The height and how far forward the implant will project from the chest

Until recently, most patients never discussed breast implant profiles with their plastic surgeons in Baltimore area. When comparing two breast implants of the same size (i.e. ‘cc’ or volume), the implant with a wider base provides a lower projection (that is it has a lower profile) compared to an implant with a narrower base. Higher profile implants can provide a more dramatic end result whereas lower profile implants tend to yield a more natural result. If you chose a certain size breast implant, you would have a specific amount of forward projection from that size implant.

Now, you can choose a breast implant size and, if you like, have that size implant stick out more or less than the base diameter would usually dictate. Note the different projection heights below.

  • Moderate Profile (regular / standard)
  • High Profile
  • Low Profile
  • Moderate “PLUS” Profile

For a woman with a very narrow frame, a moderate profile breast implant or low profile breast implant that might result in a desired size, may be too wide and carry the implant too far to the cleavage and underarm. By using a high profile implant, this patient can get the larger implant she desires with an implant that will not be too wide for her narrow frame. By the same token, a wide framed patient may find that to adequately cover the natural diameter of her breast size, the desired breast implant would have far too much projection. A low or moderate profile breast implant might work better. Your plastic surgeon can help you choose.

Mommy Makeovers – How They Benefit the Entire Family

July 17, 2018Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

breast implants maryland

In many ways, mothers are the backbone of the family. They help care for the kids, their partner, and often are the most responsible for keeping the rest of the house in order. As a result, many moms find themselves worn out and with no real time to take appropriate care for themselves and get the rest they so greatly deserve. As a result, one of the best things for a mother, and her family, is a Mommy Makeover.

Mommy Makeovers include a variety of procedures, ranging from liposuction to breast augmentation. Maryland mothers have been seeking the expert advice of Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber for years. He and his staff at Baltimore Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center note that women’s self-esteem is often closely connected to their body-image. A mother who looks good and fit feels better about herself, has more energy for her family, and ultimately serves as a better role model for her children.

Pregnancy can have long-lasting effects on a woman’s body and these changes are often not easily reversed. Patients seeking a Mommy Makeover can help regain their pre-pregnancy bodies with common procedures including facelifts and breast implants. Maryland mothers who visit Baltimore Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center for a Mommy Makeover are often simply looking to put the finishing touches on work that exercise and dieting could not address.

Ultimately, many cosmetic procedures are psycho-social. That is, they benefit patients by offering not only physical, but mentally, spiritually, and socially. Women who have been so busy caring for their family that they have not been able to achieve their physical fitness goals can feel down about themselves and are less likely to have positive interactions with their family and society at large. A few simple procedures done as part of a Mommy Makeover in Maryland have provided a huge lift to the mothers of Dr. Schreiber’s patients as well as their families.

When mom is happy and feeling good about herself, she is able to spread that cheer and those good feelings to the people around her. Mommy Makeovers are also a great way to save money on multiple cosmetic procedures because patients are only paying for one visit to the surgeon. Similarly, by bundling the procedures, recovery time is reduced, allowing mothers to get back on their feet and back to being the cheerful person who is so important to those she loves.

Sometimes Less Is More When Considering Breast Augmentation in Maryland

breast augmentation Maryland, breast implants Maryland, mommy makeover marylandJune 4, 2018Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

breast augmentation maryland

More and more women are considering breast augmentation in Maryland and they often enter their consultation with questions about choosing the right size implants. The truth is, while past images of busty celebrities and Playboy models have led to the misconception that implants need to be large and over-the-top in appearances, smaller, more natural looking implants are just as common. In fact, sometimes less is more.

There is something for everyone when it comes to breast implants in Maryland. Sure, if you want to draw attention by getting big implants that will have eyes popping the moment you enter a room, you can do that. However, recent trends seem to suggest that subtle improvements made with smaller implants are becoming increasingly more popular. Such work can give you subtle improvements and a more natural look.

Some women originally come to their cosmetic surgeon seeking large implants, but after talking with their doctor they realize that smaller implants are in fact the way to go. For example, women who live active lives and are involved in sports and other physical activities are generally better suited for smaller implants that will not affect their activities. Remember, if you start with a smaller implant, you can always decide later to increase the size if you feel the need and are comfortable doing so. This is often easier than discovering your implants were too big for your liking and deciding to size down.

A visit with your surgeon can help you select the size, placement, and shape of the implants. The incision can also be periareolar or inframammary. Periareolar incisions are done around the areola, while inframammary incisions are in the breast crease. All of these decisions can best be made by consulting with your doctor and discussing your goals, lifestyle, body type, and other factors.

What to Ask Your Surgeon before Breast Augmentation in Maryland

May 7, 2018Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

breast augmentation maryland

As summer approaches and weather and events call for swimsuits and more revealing clothing, more and more women are considering breast augmentation in Maryland. However, before making a final decision on the procedure it’s important to be able to ask your surgeon the right questions during your consultation.

First of all, ask your surgeon if breast augmentation is right for you. This will entail letting him or her know your ultimate goals which will provide the information needed to let you know if breast augmentation will help you achieve those goals.

Secondly, ask for advice on choosing the right implant size. Generally, those getting breast implants in Maryland want to choose a size that complements their figure and still maintains a natural look.

Talk to your doctor about the difference between saline and silicone implants. The final look and feel of your augmentation could be affected by this decision and your doctor will be able to help you choose according to your individual plan.

Ask about the surgical techniques available. Submuscular and subglandular implants offer different advantages for different body types and lifestyles. Bringing this up during your consultation will help you get the best results.

Finally, it is important to ask what the recovery will be like. Your surgeon should be able to give you a good idea of how long it will take to return to work, your normal exercise routine, and more. With this knowledge you will be able to prepare your home to make your recovery more comfortable and stock up on supplies you will need. Many women can return to work in a week or two and resume exercise in four to six weeks, but it depends on other personal factors.

As with any other procedure, the more knowledge and understanding of the process you have, the better chances of success you will have. Having an experienced, trustworthy, and friendly surgeon is important in getting the results you want.

Advice on Recovering from Breast Augmentation in Maryland

Advice on Recovering from Breast Augmentation in Maryland, breast augmentation Maryland, breast implants Maryland, mommy makeovers MarylandMarch 1, 2018Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

breast implants maryland One of the most common procedures performed at Baltimore Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center is breast augmentation. Of course, after having breast augmentation in Maryland, our patients are anxious to get out and show off their new look. However, it’s important to take some time to yourself to recover following such a procedure. By following a few key pieces of advice, you’ll be ready to go out and show off your new curves in no time.
After receiving breast implants in Maryland, you will need to relax. This means no heavy lifting for the first several weeks following your procedure. No picking up heavy grocery bags, doing laundry, or picking up the kids. You’ll have to find someone else to help you out with certain chores and daily activities. A light walk is okay, but don’t push yourself too soon, enjoy some time relaxing.
Wearing the right bra is vital. Your surgeon will most likely send you home with a surgical bra that you are meant to wear during the initial recovery stage. Wear the bra for as long as your surgeon recommends, then switch to a sports bra or one without underwire as you continue to recover.
Sleeping on your back is also recommended. Sleeping on your stomach or side during recovery can cause the implants to become misshapen or displaced. The best way to sleep while recovering is on your back, using an extra pillow or two to raise your head. Once the implants have settled into place you can resume sleeping as you normally would.
If you smoke, you should discontinue doing so at least during the first four weeks after surgery. Similarly, you should avoid alcohol. Both substances can interfere with your body’s natural healing abilities and prolong recovery. Both are also bad for your health, and this recovery time could prove to be a great time to quit or reduce such habits.
Of course, you will also need to stay in touch with your surgeon and going to follow-up appointments. This way your doctor can get a good read on how you are recovering and nip any potential complications in the bud. You can also consult with him or her as to when would be a good time to return to normal routines that you have been avoiding while recovering.

When Is It Safe to Work out after Breast Augmentation in Maryland or Other Cosmetic Surgery?

February 1, 2018Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

breast implants maryland
People seeking cosmetic surgery typically want to look their best. As such, many also lead an active lifestyle, working out and being involved in other physically demanding endeavors. Of course, the amount of downtime necessary is not the same for all procedures. Below we offer advice on when it is safe to work out after everything from breast augmentation in Maryland to an abdominoplasty.

Breast Augmentation
After receiving breast implants in Maryland, you will need to be careful with your chest muscles. Typically, within the first month following the procedure it’s safe to workout the lower body and even to mild cardio workouts that don’t involve moving the arms. Stationary bikes are ideal for this type of exercise. After four weeks, check with your doctor to see if you can begin light arm workouts.

Abdominoplasty

An abdominoplasty needs longer recovery since nearly all workout regimens incorporate the core muscles in some way. It will most likely take at least four weeks before you can begin exercising, and then only light cardio after consulting with your doctor.

Liposuction
Liposuction recovery can take a long time as well, but you can generally begin very light cardio exercises after about three weeks. After five or six weeks mild running and even weights can begin, but only at about half the level of intensity you did prior to surgery.

Facial Rejuvenation and Rhinoplasty
It’s tempting to think that you can begin exercising shortly after facial rejuvenation procedures, however you should typically wait at least a month to begin exercising. Increased blood pressure from exercising could cause your blood vessels to bleed and a hematoma could develop. After a month you should only begin light cardio. Similarly, exercise could lead to nosebleeds following a rhinoplasty and jeopardize your results
Most importantly, discuss your exercise plan with your surgeon before beginning any form of workout following a cosmetic procedure. While the timelines listed above are guidelines, your individual recovery could be different and you will want to be sure to have tailored advice to maintain the results of your procedure.

How to Get the Best Results from Breast Augmentation in Maryland

breast augmentation Maryland, breast implants, breast implants Maryland, mommy makeovers MarylandJanuary 17, 2018Jeffrey Schreiber, MD

breast augmentation marylandMany people come to Baltimore Plastic Surgery Center seeking the highest quality breast augmentation in Maryland. Typically, patients are looking to increase their breast size, but there are a few other key factors to keep in mind when choosing the right breast implants that will both achieve the desired results and highlight your natural figure.
When considering breast implants in Maryland, it is important to distinguish between cup size and implant size. Bra sizes are not uniform and can vary from brand to brand and by style, whereas implant sizes are uniform and are measured in cubic centimeters of volume. Discussing the difference with your surgeon can help find the right match for you.
It’s similarly vital to know what you are looking for as a result of the surgery. Some patients seek subtle improvements while others hope for dramatic changes. Visually, patients may be looking to increase cleavage, lift sagging breasts, or alter breast position.
Another aspect to consider is your lifestyle. If you work out, play a lot of sports, or have a physically demanding job, this could affect the size of implants you choose. Of course, women who lead an active life can still enjoy implants, just in some cases a smaller increase in volume may be a better choice.
Perhaps most importantly for those having breast augmentation or a mommy makeover in Maryland, is to have good rapport with your surgeon. Be sure to clearly communicate your goals and discuss them with your doctor. He or she will be able to help you choose the right size for implants as well as possibly suggesting a breast lift to go with the augmentation. In the office you will also have the opportunity to look at before and after photos to find pictures of women with similar body types and see how their augmentation improved their appearance.
