Do You Need a Blepharoplasty or Brow lift?

BALTIMORE PLASTIC & COSMETIC SURGERY

As we get older, the forehead and eye area are the first places where we begin to notice wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin, all of which contributes to a tired and aged appearance. If you are becoming increasingly unhappy with the appearance of your upper face and eye areas, it may be time to consider cosmetic surgery. Continue reading to answer the question: do you need blepharoplasty or a brow lift?

When it comes to the eyelids, time, gravity, work, and genetics can take their toll on the upper and lower eyelids.  This can cause excess skin or hooding to build up covering the top of the eye.  For the lower eyelids, puffiness can occur when the fat surrounding the eye falls forward.  Eyelid surgery surgeon, Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber, frequently performs eyelid rejuvenation surgery to remove the excess skin from the upper and lower eyelids.  Sometimes, excess fat is also removed from the eyelids to help give your eyes a less tired and refreshed look. The recovery takes only 5-7 days with minimal discomfort and downtime.

A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure to raise the position of the eyebrows into a more aesthetically pleasing position. This includes creating a gentle arch to the eyebrow (less for men) and eliminating the excess skin or hooding of the outer part of the upper eyelids. There are several types of brow lift. For example, if you only need a small amount of lift Dr. Schreiber can offer you a limited-incision brow lift. If you need more of a lift, a full brow lift may be required to meet your aesthetic goals. Both men and women with eyebrows in a low position or with a lack of an arch are good candidates for a brow lift procedure. As your surgeon, Dr. Schreiber can help you achieve a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to your eyebrows and eyes.

While a brow lift can lift your eyebrows and smooth your forehead area, an eyelid lift (blepharoplasty) focuses solely on your eyelids. During an eyelid lift, Dr. Schreiber removes excess skin and fat from the lids, making them less droopy and puffy. Eyelid lifts can be performed on your upper lids, lower lids, or both.

If the drooping of the eyelid goes away when your brows are raised, then a brow lift may be the procedure you are looking for.

Sometimes droopiness of the upper eyelid may be because of lower brow position. Dr. Schreiber explains that in these cases, patients may need both a blepharoplasty and a brow lift to achieve the lifted, rejuvenated look that they desire. The two procedures can be done efficiently in just one surgery.
