Is a Baltimore Tummy Tuck or Liposuction Best For You?

BALTIMORE PLASTIC & COSMETIC SURGERY

Many people who decide to get a flatter stomach through surgery have a hard time choosing between liposuction or a tummy tuck. This is especially true when the patient isn’t clear on the difference between the two. Both procedures are similar in that they help clients to have an enhanced abdominal area, by making a tighter midsection. Read on to discover how a Baltimore tummy tuck is different from liposuction, and what results you can expect to see from both.

Tummy Tuck

The tummy tuck is a remarkable procedure that aids in getting rid of the patient’s excess abdominal skin, and at the same time tightens the abdominal muscles.

When you go for a tummy tuck in Baltimore, Dr. Schreiber will start by making an incision across the lower abdomen, and will then proceed to remove the extra skin, and tighten the muscles. The remaining skin is re-draped over the abdominal area, thus leaving a tight and flat stomach. A Baltimore tummy tuck is the best option if one has issues with stretched muscles and loose skin, but not as much of an issue with fat.

Liposuction

If you have fatty tissue that is located in specific areas, then you may want to consider having a liposuction instead of – or in addition to – a tummy tuck. The tumescent liposuction is particularly efficient in getting rid of stubborn excess fat safely and quickly. Liposuction is not the same as Baltimore tummy tuck, which is more invasive, requires longer recovery time and includes the use of general anesthesia. Also, a liposuction can be used on more than just the stomach. It may be used on other body parts, such as the arms, legs, butt, chin, and sides.

Liposuction is best for people who have muscle tone and good skin. This means that individuals who have issues like excess skin on the midsection or loose abdominal muscles may not qualify as candidates for liposuction. Liposuction usually improves the shape of the client’s stomach both in and out of clothes – solving the major issue that the patient may be struggling with. However, liposuction fails to address issues regarding stretch marks, loose abdominal muscles, and extra skin. Such problems are often associated with extreme loss of weight or pregnancy.

Which procedure should you choose?

Both tummy tucks and liposuction are ideal Baltimore cosmetic surgery procedures. However, before you go for any of the two, it is important first to determine the issue at hand. If you have a problem with loose abdominal tissue, or too much skin on the abdominal area (probably due to a recent loss in weight) a tummy tuck will work best for you. On the other hand, if you want to enhance the look of individual body parts that have excess fat, like the arms or stomach, liposuction will work best for you.

If you aren’t sure what the best procedure is for your individual needs, contact Dr. Schreiber of Baltimore Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center for a consultation. He can advise on whether you are a good candidate for a tummy tuck, liposuction, or possibly both!
