Breast augmentation, breast enhancement, or a breast lift in Baltimore may all seem like an act of vanity for some people, but for most women it’s serious business. A lot of women feel that their breasts aren’t at their best and they may be right, according to a recent study by American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Charlotte Hilton Andersen discussed the specifics of the said study in a recent article for Shape:
According to a study published in the Journal of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery—which involved asking over 1,300 people to look at pictures of naked boobies and rank them by hotness […] people preferred a more “real” and “normal” look from their silicone, with the ideal breast shape having a 45:55 ratio. People said the best chests have 45 percent of the fullness above the nipple line and 55 percent of the fullness below, in a slightly teardrop shape. Researchers noted this preference remained consistent across gender, racial, and ethnic groups with the 45:55 ratio favored by 87 percent of women in their 30s, 90 percent of men, and 94 percent of plastic surgeons.
Since the described breast shape above is deemed “ideal”, it goes without saying that not too many women have it. This is where getting a breast augmentation by Baltimore cosmetic surgeons like Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber from Baltimore Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center comes in. With some surgical tweaking, it’s possible to get the breasts you desire.
Having your breasts enhanced isn’t just a matter of walking into a cosmetic surgery center and asking for a breast lift or implants. Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure like any other and you’ll need to be assessed for eligibility. For instance, if you’re a healthy woman over the age of 18, you’re a good candidate for saline implants, while you’ll need to be over 22 to get silicone ones. Moreover, if you’re suffering from an infection, cancer, currently pregnant, or breastfeeding then you won’t be able to undergo the procedure. You’ll also need to consult with the doctor doing the procedure to ensure that you’re physically fit and have a speedy recovery.
If you’re cleared for the operation, the procedure itself is pretty straightforward. The surgeon will make an incision either under your breasts, under your arms, or around your nipples. The location depends on your discussion with the doctor, the size of the implant, and the type of implant. Afterwards, the incisions will be closed with either sutures or surgical tape. On average, the process takes about one to two hours. You’ll still have to be careful during recovery though; but when that’s over, you can finally enjoy your better, more beautiful bosom.
