Woman's Neck

Have you started to notice loose skin under your chin, or little bulges of fat commonly called “turkey neck”? Are you looking for more definition along your jawline? Whether it’s from sun damage, gravity, your neck area ages you first. That means, now is the perfect time to learn everything you need to know about a neck lift with one of the best board-certified plastic surgeons at Baltimore Plastic Surgery Dr. Jeffrey Schreiber.

WHAT EXACTLY IS A NECK LIFT?

Neck lifts are commonly used to remove the excess skin or fat of the neck and to tighten the muscles (bands) to give you a rejuvenated jawline and youthful appearance.

WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF A NECK LIFT?

We recommend a neck lift if you’ve been dealing with:

  • Double or triple chins
  • Loose and sagging skin under your chin, along your jawline, or on your neck “Turkey neck”
  • Lax neck muscles
  • Creases and folds on the neck
  • Bulges caused by pockets of fat

THE PROCEDURE

A neck lift can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. The incisions for a neck lift follow the lines around the earlobes and extend back behind the ear and into the hairline. A small incision is also made underneath the chin to help with tightening the neck muscles. This way, the incisions stay inconspicuous and heal very well. Dr. Schreiber will then lift the skin off of the underlying neck muscles. This allows him to tighten the neck muscles in order to help establish a long-lasting improved contour to the neck. Tightening the neck muscles also gives a more youthful, smooth contour to the neck.

The next step involves pulling back the skin of the neck and any excess skin is removed. Stitches are used to secure the skin back behind the ears. The entire procedure takes about 3 hours and it’s done as an outpatient. If you’d like to stay overnight in the hospital, arrangements can be made for this at a very affordable rate.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY NECK LIFT?

After your Baltimore neck lift, we’ll wrap the healing area with a comfortable compression bandage, to hold everything in place and preserve the results of your procedure.

For up to about three days, your neck will feel tight, and you might experience some pain and swelling. The feeling of tightness might last until you’re fully healed, and some patients experience numbness and tingling around their incisions.

The stitches in front of the ears are removed 3-5 days after the procedure. The stitches behind the ear are removed about 7 days after the neck lift procedure.

Men, as well as women, frequently see a plastic surgeon Baltimore to correct this area bothers a lot of people as time goes on.  As a neck lift expert, Dr. Schreiber utilizes a technique to help hide the scars as much as possible while getting the maximum effect with the neck lift procedure.
